Montreal's spring snowmelt, combined with heavy spring rainfall, puts enormous pressure on the city's sewer infrastructure every year. During high-inflow events, sewer mains can surcharge — forcing wastewater backward through the lateral drains connected to homes. If your home doesn't have a backwater valve installed, a sewer backup can push sewage up through your basement floor drain, laundry tub, or lower-level toilets with no warning. A backwater valve is the single most effective flood protection measure for a Montreal basement, and we install them regularly across the city.
Multi-unit buildings in Montreal share vertical drain stacks and, in many cases, share horizontal drain runs. A clog in one unit's drain can affect water flow in another.
